Mido

The Mido SA is a Swiss watch manufacturer, and now has its headquarters in Le Locle in the Swiss Jura. The name Mido comes from the Spanish Yo mido (I measure).
Mido was founded on 11 November 1918 by Swiss watchmaker George Schaeren under the name G. Schaeren & Cie in Solothurn (Switzerland). From 1924, his brother Henry joined the company, which had previously been Sales Director at Omega. 1940 they specialized in waterproof watches. From 1944 self-winding watches were produced. With the introduction of Multifort in 1934, the first clock was introduced, which could unite four features: automatic movement, water resistant, anti-magnetic and shock. The Multifort was due to the sales figures up to 1950 a mainstay in the corporate portfolio.
Newer model series have (since 1995) for example an alarm siren for personal protection (bodyguard), or by crown pressure automatically adjustable time zones in an analog clock (Worldtimer).
